Custom ocular prosthetics
A custom artificial eye, hand-crafted and individually painted to match your natural eye — restoring a natural appearance and a comfortable fit after the loss or absence of an eye. Available at our Las Vegas clinic.
What a custom ocular prosthesis is
A custom ocular prosthesis is a hand-fabricated artificial eye — individually shaped and painted to match your natural eye in color, detail, and proportion. Unlike a stock, off-the-shelf eye, a custom prosthesis is made for one person, which is what allows it to look natural and sit comfortably. It restores the appearance and natural contours of the eye and socket; it does not restore vision.
How it's made
Creating a custom ocular prosthesis is a careful, multi-step process that usually spans several visits over a few weeks. We take an impression of the socket, shape the prosthesis to fit, then hand-paint the iris and sclera — matching the subtle color, veining, and detail of your natural eye — before fitting and polishing it for comfort and a natural finish.
Who it's for
Custom ocular prostheses are made for people who have lost an eye to trauma or illness (following enucleation or evisceration), as well as for congenital conditions such as microphthalmia or anophthalmia. A thin scleral shell can also be fitted over a disfigured, non-seeing eye to restore a natural appearance.
Care and follow-up
An ocular prosthesis is a long-term device. It needs periodic professional polishing and occasional refitting to stay comfortable and natural-looking as tissues change over time. We provide day-to-day cleaning and handling guidance and schedule ongoing follow-up care.
Our team & clinical oversight
At Quantum, ocular prostheses are designed, fabricated, and hand-finished by Mihran Gasparyan, Ocular Prosthetics Technician, who paints each prosthesis to match the patient's natural eye. Ocular prosthetic care is provided under the clinical oversight of Vikram Choudhary, CPO/LPO. This service is offered at our Las Vegas clinic.
